Clipsal 500, 2013, The Future Starts Here

Posted on by edgarchieng in Events, Photography | Leave a comment

The Clipsal 500 has come and put the V8 Supercars race in Adelaide in the spotlight again. This year saw the introduction of new teams and new manufacturers in the line up, Nissan and Mercedes AMG Erebus. Although the Top 10 spots in the first race of the V8 Supercars race calendar was taken by both Holden and Ford, Nissan was not far off, while the Erebus AMG Mercedes were at the bottom of the list due to a string of vehicle issues which will hopefully be sorted for the rest of the season.

The Erebus AMG Mercedes only inked the deal months before the race started, so proper development time was limited but for the teams to bring 3 race E63 AMG Mercedes to the grid is fantastic and the sound of that V8 race engines built by AMG in Germany is nothing short of amazing and spectacular, it sounded like an angry F1 engine.

The Australian GT Championship race is also my other favourite in the series, the line up varies from Mercedes AMG SLS, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 458, Porsche, to Aston Martin. It’s so exciting to see these exotic supercars racing neck to neck and the difference in engine noise is music to the ears.

Port Adelaide with my new Canon 5D Mark III

Posted on by edgarchieng in Places, Videography | Leave a comment

I received my new long awaited upgrade from my old Canon 5D Mark II to the Mark III on the day it was made available nationally in Australia. I couldn’t wait to shoot with this new camera (review to come soon), so I took it out to the historic Port Adelaide to do some testing. I’ve been wanting to film Port Adelaide for a while now, so what better way to do it with my new camera.

Port Adelaide plays a significant part in the history of South Australia, these days, much of function of the original port has retired, new residential housings and apartments are in development, but most of old historic structures like the Hart’s Mill, the old open bridge of Birkenhead (which I did not get a chance to film it open during my shoot) and the Port Light House.

I will be doing more test video on the new Mark III, but in the meantime please enjoy the short clip of Port Adelaide.

The Extreme Auto Expo has been one of the biggest car show yet. Formally known as Extreme Horsepower Show, the newly branded Extreme Auto Expo is the Adelaide’s round of the Meguiar’s Super Stars, a National competition which attracts the best modified vehicles from all over Australia.

The Glen Jenning’s Batmobile was the star in this year’s show and is a technically correct replica of the 1966 built Batmobile for the 1966 TV series & autographed by Adam West (batman) and Lee Meriwether (catwoman). Body – built by Gotham Cruisers and is a first generation correct moulding and built on a 1976 Lincoln frame.

Apart from the show cars, the Zippel Cruise also rocked up to the show on Saturday afternoon with a total of over 400 cars! Only American muscle cars are on sight, which brought to the showground an American atmosphere like no other.

Visit Extreme Auto Expo for more information. Video will be coming soon.

Official 2011 Gazzanats Video

Posted on by edgarchieng in Events, Videography | Leave a comment

This is my official video of the 2011 Gazzanats event. The annual Gazzanats event is held at Adelaide International Raceway, and is open for all participants from around the country for the burnout event (which is the biggest part of the whole event). A big part of Gazzanat is played by Gary Myers, who is the Burnout Champion of the World, who holds multiple world records for Burnout competition.

The whole event is about revheads and people who are mad about cars, especially American and V8 muscle cars in general. I was able to get up close throughout the entire burnout events and this is a seriously dangerous motorsport, but a very entertaining one. This is the second year I have been to Gazzanats, and if I get the chance again in the future, I would definitely keep going every year.

This was shot on the Sony NX70, the slow-motion part was shot using the slow-motion mode with a 200 frames per second burst mode for 3-sec, however, after processing, the final length is approx. 12 sec at 25 frames per second. The video is edited in Final Cut Pro, graded with Magic Bullet Looks.

Port Adelaide Cars Meet-Up

A planned open-invitation for car enthusiasts was organised at the Old Hart’s Mill in Port Adelaide, South Australia. This was not a car club meetup, or a car-show event. It is just purely a group of friends getting together and taking photos of their cars.

I was invited to the meet-up and got to film these really nice cars.

A time lapse video of a work in progress interior fit-out by Schiavello group for an upcoming retail supermarket at Henley Beach Square, Adelaide.

More to come as project is coming to completion. Current video is 3.5months worth of images from a GoPro HD camera locked in a custom secured enclosure with direct power source.

Trip to Kuching, Malaysia

Posted on by edgarchieng in Places, Videography | Leave a comment

I last visited Kuching back in 2004, and my trip to this time had shown me the drastic changes to the city from the last time I saw it. However the culture, the tradition and the local people remains the same, which is what I like about it. I filmed this video around the various street markets around the city, and also the waterfront.

I just have to film this as I might not be able to see these sort of scenes in my next trip as Kuching is rapid developing left right and centre to become a more modern city. I also went to Damai Beach Resort and stayed overnight with my family, it’s a 45-minutes drive from the city and is the nice getaway in the rather tropic and hot weather of Kuching.

I hope to visit Kuching again during my next trip and eagerly awaits to see the ever-changing city scape.
